Testing 1, 2, 3… Upcoming BETAS

3 First Person Shooter games that the GhostZA office has on their Christmas list is Titanfall 2, Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty Modern Warfare Remastered Version with that other game that comes free with it.

Titanfall 2

I, for one have been impatiently waiting for the next alliteration of Respawn Entertainment’s Titanfall. A game that mixes parkour, FPS and Mechs (lovingly renamed Titans) is a geek’s wet dream, or it is for me at least.

With the 2nd one on its way, the GhostZA office was a buzz with conversations as to when a Beta will be available. Our prayers were finally answered… Respawn Entertainment launched Titanfall 2’s first stage of their Multiplayer Beta, dubbed Tech Test, last week, 19 – 21 August 2016, that focused on the following:

Pilot Abilities

Pulse Blade

Grapple

Holo Pilot

Stim

Titanfall 2’s second stage of the Multiplayer Beta starts this weekend, 26 – 28 August 2016, adding some more fun to the mix.

Unfortunately, we are only being treated to the Multiplayer Beta and no Single Player Campaign even though Titanfall 2 will now include a full Single Player Campaign, something that was left out of Titanfall 1. But put your mind at ease. If you didn’t know, Respawn Entertainment was the brainchild of the lead designers and writers from Infinity Ward. This team was responsible for arguably one of the best story arcs in a FPS – Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare (which features further down in the article). Following Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare, that very team left Infinity Ward and Respawn Entertainment was born.

With Modern Warefare as evidence, we are pretty confident that Respawn will not disappoint this time around.

Battlefield 1

What can be said about Battlefield 1 that the trailer and Alpha Gameplay hasn’t said yet. Battlefield 1 is inspired by historical events within World War 1, which the development team considered “the dawn of all-out warfare”.

Battlefield 1’s Open Beta starts on 31 August 2016 on Xbox One, Playstation 4 and Origin for PC. If you were lucky enough to sign up on the Battlefield Insider Page, then you will receive a code that allows you start playing a few days earlier than 31 August 2016.

The Battlefield 1 Open Beta will include the Sinai Desert map, a scorching hot battlefield located just East of El-Jifar. From infantry skirmishes in the narrow streets of the village of Bir el Mazar to dogfights above the majestic cliffs, you’ll need to make tactical use of the dunes as you engage in explosive battles. When all hope is lost, reinforcements will arrive in the shape of a powerful Behemoth: a deadly Armored Train charging through the desert sands.

Two modes will be available as well:

  • Conquest. An all-time fan favorite of Battlefield players, Conquest is a large-scale game mode with up to 64 players fighting for the control of key objectives. With large armies on foot or behind the wheel and the addition of fearsome Behemoths, Conquest brings together all the elements of the signature Battlefield All-Out War.
  • Rush. A 24-player mode where the Attacking force must find and destroy the Defending force’s Telegraph Posts, which can be used to call in artillery strikes. The Defenders can deny the Attackers their mission by disarming explosives they plant on the telegraph positions. Should the Telegraph Posts be destroyed, the Defenders must fall back to the next sector and protect the Telegraph Posts there.

Call of Duty Infinite Warfare and Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare

The biggest FPS franchise in history is back again with another installment but this time being developed by the Modern Warfare Series developers, Infinity Ward (in case the name “Infinite Warfare” wasn’t a dead giveaway). Call of Duty has pushed further into the future whereas Battlefield has pushed further into the past which has caused heavy backlash from the community, the community that has voiced that they do not want anything futuristic.

If you thought there would be a Beta for Modern Warfare, then I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but there is not. On the other side of the coin, there are rumors regarding the Infinite Warfare Beta. The rumors do not lend to the “obvious Beta testing procedures”.

In order to play/participate in the Beta you will need to purchase Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. Unfortunately, this means that if you were on the fence regarding whether or not to purchase the game, you either have to dive in head first or borrow it from a friend that dived in head first. One way or another, you will only participate in the Beta if you dive in.
