Yeah yeah I know, we’re a little behind on this one but Battlefield 1 has launched and it’s fantastic – play the campaign! Seriously… this is the war game we’ve all needed to end all war games! lol ok maybe not but it has definitely set the bar for what a war game should do and how to tell a story set within a great war. What I love about the campaign is that The Great War is the central character and even though as players, we take control of multiple characters through a number of narratives, it still feels as if the experience is meant to communicate that character’s arch through the theme of all out hostile, blood, mud and violent war. There’s no ideology, no right or wrong, just humans having to endeavor. Battlefield 1 stands apart from the plethora of other titles that seem to have players control ‘the greatest soldier who ever lived.
Anyhoot this isn’t supposed to be a review but rather an acknowledgment of Mweb GameZone’s Battlefield Launch that took place in Cape Town. Check out there killer video below… it’s killer because our boys at BTTL Studios did it ;p (SHAMELESS PLUG!!)
Also, have a read below and find out what an inexperienced non-gamer and tag along, Mish Winterwolf had to say about the experience:
To be honest, I’ve never attended a gaming launch before. So the launch of Battlefield 1 at the MWEB Gaming Zone was something entirely new to me. I knew absolutely nothing about the game and had to ask a friend for a few more details. He explained it as one of the biggest first person shooter games on the market that is known for its in-depth multiplayer. I definitely noticed the multiplayer aspect while at the launch as various groups would watch, comment and take turns playing the game.
While at the event I noticed how close-knit the gaming community is – everyone seemed to know one another and it was all very friendly. Even as a newcomer, I was welcomed. I was told I should try participating in the target shooting games, which I thought were pretty cool considering the game was a first person shooter, as well as just chatting to random people about their experiences of the game.
Overall, it was a great night and spending it with friends while glimpsing into the world of online gaming was an experience I’ll never forget.
